In traditional Indian families,
children are named as per the child's Rasi and Janma Nakshatra or birth star,
i.e., the zodiac sign and star constellation in which the moon is placed
at the time of birth. For each sign/birth star certain letters are considered
auspicious and the first letter of the child's name should start with one of
the suitable letters. There are different ways this is
done, though the simplistic way is based on Nakshatra and Rashi. It is good to
combine a bit of Astro-numerology. According to Vedic Astrology is that there
are 27 ‘Nakshatras’ (Constellations) consisting of 4 ‘Padas’ (Sub-parts). Each
‘Nakshatra’ changes in every 62 minutes and the ‘Pada’ in every 15 minutes.
Each ‘Nakshatra’ has a certain alphabet associated with it. I will lay down the
alphabets according to the ‘Rashi’ or Moon sign for your perusal so that you
can name your child with the appropriate word.
There are two parts to this,
first the alphabets are given and then certain names for reference.
For various signs the alphabets are:
Aries - ‘Choo’, ‘Che’, ‘Chau’,
‘La’, ‘Lee’, ‘Loo’, ‘Le’, ‘Lo’, ‘A’
Taurus - ‘Ee’, ‘U’, ‘E’, ‘O’,
‘Va’, ‘Vi’, ‘Vu’ ‘Ve’, ‘Vo’

Now, we further bifurcate above
alphabets according to the ‘Nakshatras’ because this is the deciding factor for
a particular alphabet as each ‘Pada’ has an alphabet attached to it. So first
see the baby ‘Janam Nakshatra’ (Birth Constellation) alongwith the ‘Pada’ in
the horoscope then accordingly decide the alphabet. To make it clear please go
through the below chart for final decision.

It is best to name a child with a
letter compatible with the "Lagna". Second way is according to
"Janma Nakshtra". Now, based on above facts you can name your baby
but keep in mind that the name you choose should go well with the surname. Make it a point that the first letter of the
name has a big impact on a person's life. Similarly in case of twins’, names
should be an attractive pairing like Mohit and Monica, John and Jane. Also
avoid nicknames because childhood nicknames can linger into adulthood and make
child uncomfortable.
We have summarised a few tips for
choosing a name for your child:
- Astrologically find out the Nakshatra
and Charan your child is born in to shortlist the first alphabet.
- Always choose names which are
easy to pronounce and make sure it sounds good with your last name.
- Give your baby a meaningful name so
that he/she can inherit the qualities and values associated with that
name.
- Try avoiding common names; make
their identity stand out in the crowd.
- Teasing at names is quite popular
among then children, keep this factor in mind. Initials may combine to
make funny, expressive statements. Or nicknames could become a source of
trouble.
