It is the University Grants Commission that carries out the NET exam for the recruitment of Lecturers and teachers in colleges. In addition to this, it also grants recognition for Indian Universities. Moreover, it also gives funds for Universities as well as Colleges that are recognized by the Indian government.

All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE)

The sphere of the AICTE comprises of technical education. In addition to this there is research as well as training in the disciplines of Engineering, Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Architecture as well as Applied Arts and Crafts. Other streams like Technology, Pharmacy, Management and Town Planning are also included.

2. While technical institutions are overlooked by the AICTE, the other universities and colleges fall under the UGC.
3. UGC approves universities in the country. It provides funds for affiliated universities and colleges. The AICTE is only a statutory body, which deals with co-ordinated development and proper planning of the technical education system in the country.
4. The AICTE was established in 1945, and the UGC in 1956.
